Make sure your mobo can support the new cpu.
I know the socket is the same but are there other things you need to check?
Not sure if this is a common problem but it happened to me once lol.
Never found out why the new cpu didnt work...hmmm.

I'm pretty sure as long as the Mobo supports the socket and FSB it will work.
 
Very big performance increase, i just recently swapped out a socket 939 3700+ in a HP to this chip for my mom, you wouldn't believe what a difference it made.
 
Yep... definitely a great upgrade if you're not ready for a new build yet. While you're upgrading you might look at some RAM as well (i don't know how much you have, but if it's not more than 1GB an upgrade might be worth it), DDR2 seems to be ridiculously cheap now.
