Would this be good for a gaming computer? My friend built his computer, and it seems not to hard to put togeather, but i'm not sure about parts. This is what i was thinks of so far. Suggestions and comments much appreciated.

Budget: Preferably under $1100. Trying to build this on a budget, like most people, and i'm trying to spend money where it matters, and settle on other things that i can just upgrade in the future. So if you see anything where i could save a few extra bucks without loosing much preformance, please point it out.

OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS ATX12V / EPS12V 600W Power Supply

that looks pretty good, i suggest for the price Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 ram ($76)

If you get amd and want a sli motherboard i suggest a nforce 590 (590: SLI runs at x16/x16, 570: SLI runs x8/x8) but the 570 is good.

And don't get the 320mb GTS, get the new 8800GT 512mb, it beats the 640mb GTS and is right with the GTX.

Also, if you want to overclock intel is better, at stock the E6600 and 6000+ perform the same. With intel the E6550 is right with the 5600+ @ stock, though it costs $180. But if you don't want to oc like crazy then it wouldn't matter, really. Im more than happy with my mine.

What power supply are you going to get? depending on your budget, i would get either a OCZ StealthXStream 600w ($89) OCZ GameXStream ($140) or a Corsair 520w ($125)

thinking of using a SIGMA SHARK SP-635 ATX12V 635W for the power supply. And im not to sure if i want to try overclocking because this will be the first time ive put a computer togeather from scratch. And do you mean using this as the graphics card Leadtek PX8800GT 512MB Standard GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0. I dont know if PCI-E can run 2.0.

Is the Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 ram worth the extra money? Trying to make this computer as cheap as possible.

Correct, PCI-E 2.0 isn't much different and works on all boards with PCI-E 1.0 which are about all thats available right now, so no need for a board with 2.0.

I wouldn't reccomend that PSU, i would get one of those i suggested. $99 for something i havn't heard of before, OCZ and Corsair are really good PSU's.

Theres a list in there to give you an idea of some good supplies/brands
Looks here http://www.computerforum.com/90118-useful-psu-case-guides.html

You want a good quality PSU since its what will be powering the entire system, risking a low quality unit could fry your whole system if something goes wrong.

The 8800 will work in a PCI-E slot. Definitely get it over the current 8800GTS. As for memory... search slickdeals.net forums. They have all kinds of great deals on RAM.

So this it what im at now:

Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI Mother
GeForce 8800GT 512MB PCI Express
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) RAM
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz
ZALMAN CNPS 9500 AM2 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink
OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS ATX12V / EPS12V 600W
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower
Windows XP Home Edition

Would this be a good gaming computer, and still be able to normal task such as internet browsing, word, etc.

Yes, that would be a very good budget build. And with that graphics card you should be able to play any game out on maximum settings without a hiccup, and just so you know if you ever wanted to play a DX10 games you got to have Vista.

get vista so that you have DX10 capability, your computer can run it, no worries there, you wont get 4FPS because you buy vista, as some would suggest, lol
