So i'm trying to format the 120GB HD (vista business) in my sig, and apparently
when i start the xp setup i freezes where it says "press f6 to load third party drivers etc etc".
so i though maybe my disc has problem so i used another one, same problem.
So i booted off windows 2000 and win2k manage to get by that swiftly and get to the partition screen.
So how do i fix this, any ideas, i want to setup XP right now :(

i don't want to use vista as my home OS

edit : and yeah i fried my 80GB HD, so all data lost, at the back of the Hard drive smells like sh*t :D

during the boot process keep your hand on the pause button.
look for the boot process if ya can. (it should detect it).
low level format. goto the hd manufacture. they have a proggy
that will check the drive and low level. (like brand new).

right now i have no OS, i formatted vista using the win2k disk but now win2k also don't boot.
strange

BUMP , anyone ?
i've tried fiddling with jumpers on the mobo, ive booted knoppix and formatted vista,to no avail.
anyone know why my setup freezes at "Press f6 if you nedd to install third party scsi/raid driver" ?

the first time ever i cant fix my own pc :(

it's funny to think that i can actually install ubuntu on my pc (did it now) and i can't install XP/Vista ? any workarounds ?

please guys i dont think i will last long with linux

hey simon i haven't actually posted anything there all i see is vista threads..lol,
anyways i downloaded the bios files from Foxcon put them on floppy, rebooted (it says press ALT+F to enter awflash) so i did press the keys and i got four long beeps (that was with floppy in the drive) so i rebooted pressed ALT+F (no floopies) and i got nothing..what the f**k, you wanna tell me the bios isn't working either ?

are you sure your xp disc is good? and the cd drive is good?

yes my xp disk is good my dvd drive is good, how did i manage to install ubuntu !!
but something i didn't try, i haven't actuall install a text based distro like suse, since ubuntu is live it wasn't a problem to install.
anyways back to topic, i can't enter my the flash bios thingy, odd

did you try a different one? just since ubuntu is a cd and xp is a dvd i think.

Also i recall having this exact problem on a laptop. did not run windows but ran linux fine. unfortunately i disassembled it. i bet it is the motherboard like you said.

Windows sometimes sees certain drives and controllers (Promise i one) as SCI drives. I suggest at the prompt (to insert 3rd party drivers) you slip in either your motherboard CD or or you have it your hadrd drive/controller disc and see if Windows grabs what it needs of these.

XP is a cd, vista is a dvd, Linux is Live so thats why it runs and install

actually at that specified moment, you can't do anything, windows setup just freezes.

how about a non-live linux? wiill that install

yeah one thing i haven't done, i will try suse10.2 but i highly doubt it will work.
will try tonigh.
so let's say it does work where does my problem lie ? cause i've tried different xp discs

the only two things i could think of are motherboard or cd drive. but wait. try taking one chip of ram and see if it could be ram. it is worth trying just to see. i dont think it would but windows installer may use the sector that is bad.
