8800gt overated. Its only slightly better than 8600gts!

I was looking at evga's site (after sending payment info on my step-up for the 8800gt) and clicked on this.

You can clearly see, the highest score for the 8800gt is a little under 16,000 while the highest score for the 8800gts is around 19,000. I thought it was supposed to kill the gts? What's going on with those charts? Is it a driver issue or what?

Also..I have the 8600gts right now, and on their site the high score for it was 12,000...wtf! I get like 5,000 with it! (Could it be because I have a damn Dell, or the other people with the 8600gts simply had better builds than I?)

If someone could explain..that'd be great.

P.S. The title may be slightly misleading..

Wait... why are you basing everything on scores? Does that really determine the better card? It seems like someone who tries each card out would notice a difference. Your saying the 8600GTS<8800GT<8800GTS? That doesn't make any sense.

No i'm saying that's what the scores are saying.

I don't believe that the gts outperforms the gt...I'm curious why some of evga's users' 3dmarko6 scores are saying it does

Its because the GT is based on the new G92 technology, which in return beats the 8800GTS. Let alone the 8600GT/S

Oh, okay. I agree, but I'll have to see how it compares to the 8600GTS when I get my own. I'm not basing my decision too much on scores.

I never liked pcmark benchmarking apps.. They're not representative of real game performance, it's just a score you can show your friends. Benchmarks that show you how well a card performs in a variety of situations are real benchmarks. ;)

It's not overrated, the 8800GTS get between 9K-10K stock, he had it overclocked a lot. I dont know why you are going by oc'd benchmarks.

ive seen enough benchmarks from enough sources to attest that this thread is completely untrue. for the money, the 8800GT is the absolute best card available at the moment

it does, the 8800GTS 320Mb is slightly slower (its faster in 3dmark03, but slower in 3dmark05 for example) than the 8800GT, but the 8800GTS outperforms the GT, or at least, thats what i've seen from dutch previews so far :)

What else is there to base a decision on?
I guess reviews. But in most reviews, the card usually ends up getting benchmarked anyways :D
Maybe specs but specs determine the scores
