New Purchase

Nah you dont need to reinstall OS if your just updating the cpu and the fan it should be all good

Looks good. You never need an OS reinstall unless you are changing Harddrives. Thats just about the only thing that holds information like that. I'm sure you will notice the difference from your 3200+.

Or motherboard :P

Looks good, i upgraded my moms 939 computer from a 3700+ ro a x2 4200+ (i think its a toledo) and it was a mojor performance upgrade

If you change motherboard it removes OS? Epidemik stole a few of my old harddrives and they still had the OS and all the info on them.

If you change the motherboard, windows won't boot. Because it installs and registers to that hardware, dont know how.. anyway forget about all the explanations. If you change the motherboard you got to reinstall. :P

Now I am still a newbie at Hardware changes...

Only built one machine from the ground up but fixed several others.

However...the CPU and HSF scares the life outta me. How much compound to put on?

and hopefully a new OS install is not needed.

Looks like a good combo?:D

Thanks for the replys!

If your not overclocking the pre applied compound on the heatsink will do fine and no you wont have to reinstall the OS

Thanks to all for the replys!!!

Newegg rocks!

Had my order at my doorstep this afternoon and now I'm dual core!

Runs a bit hot for the chip though...35C at normal computing, thought I was going to get lower results but oh well....dual core!
haha!:D
