Upgrading Processor

I currently have a T5450 processor (1.66GhZ 667MhZ FSB). My question is, what are my upgrade options? Can I upgrade to the T7700? Can someone tell me if in fact my mobo is 800Mhz compatible?

Both are on the Santa Rosa platform, so it should be plug n play correct?

I have tried to get the mother board info, but all the software tried comes up as unknown. GRRR

Did any1 understand what that guy said? no offence but maby u should go outside more often, NO THAT DOESNT MEAN LEAVING YOUR INN IN WOW IT MEANS OPENING THE DOOR AND GETTING LAID :D.

Your mobo defines your fsb. If it supports it, you can upgrade. If not, you need to upgrade.

Thank you... That guy can't even install a bloody DVD-Rom much less know what to do with a woman.

I have tried both AIDA32 and Belarc to no avail. They both come up with unknown under Mobo. Only thing I am able to get is the ID number which is pretty much useless (SROSA001.86C.0034.D.0709271742)

It is a 64 bit capable processor FWIW... Here are the only specs I can find on the computer...

Your current PC spec. seems OK to me. Why do you want a upgrade? I always find upgrading laptop is a bit risky...

Ok, guys. Instead of flaming that loser, why don't we help the OP?

To the OP:
I am not sure you can change the processor in a laptop. If you buy your laptop from HP or Dell or other company that pre-built it for you, you can't really change the processor in the laptop. You are lucky if you can even change the graphic card. Usually, you can only change the hard drive or RAM.

An exception to this would be if you buy barebone for your laptop and built it yourself. In this case you can change the processor (I think, not sure about this).

So to answer your question, I doubt you can change the processor of your laptop.
 
Well thank you, but have changed the processors out on several lappys before. The processor isn't soldered to the mobo, so should be changeable, just wondering what is compatible with it.

The 1.66 @ 667 is *ok*, but only reason I have it is because I couldn't afford the higher end at the time. I just upgraded to 4 gigs of ram as well.

FWIW, this computer does real time music video mixing.
 
A friend of mine works at Geek Squad, generally doing networking, but he was the on-call overnight guy for a while. The way he explained it to me once, was that OEM's made it as difficult as possible to open up a laptop and do anything with it. Generally, they are not user-serviceable in any meaningful way. You can replace HDs (which fail, and people frequently want larger ones), batteries (which wear out), and RAM (which people frequently want to replace). Basically, you can do it yourself so far as it's helpful to the manuafacturer.

I would only try the CPU swap if the thing was out of warranty anyway. And if I could do without a laptop while I either built myself a new one or bought one after breaking it.
 
OK... thanks guys.. I understand it's not a desktop and heck, Toshibas are one of the WORST to disassemble. Not my concern.. not the question...

Want to know if the 7700 will work with my socket.
