I think someone is stealing my internet!

nobody is stealing your internet. Its a virus/spyware in your computer.
please tell me what security tools do you use? are they active/updated?
 
Do you have a wireless router?
If your on a desktop, but connected to a router, that has a wireless, maybe its unencrypted.

Also, if your in an apartment, where Verizon DSL is a package, or other people in your building have it, sometimes if a lot of people are on it, it will slow down. I think its called a shared connection.
 
If you have a wireless router activate WPA.

If you don't, I don't see how someone could be stealing your internet. But, might wanna try scanning for viruses/spyware.
 
ok, first off i've logged hours of time with verizon's tech support over the years that i've had their dsl service. What they tell you isn't always right. So what i'd start off with is look at the connection rate your modem claims. If you're running standard settings you should be able to punch in 192.168.1.1 to check out the modem's general information page with this information. If it says something much lower than the advertised speed then reseting your modem might help. What kind of modem do you have by the way as some of them tend to be crappy. Check that and then get back with us. If the conenction shows that it's connected at the advertised speed and it still performs poorly then it's probably something else.

Cable internet works like that but DSL dont...you have your own dedicated line. I had the same problem you are having about a year ago and it turned out to be a problem at the station in Kalamazoo and I live in Grand rapids mich...thats 60 miles away. It was a bad DSLAM box that caused all the problems, the exact same thing you are talking about I could surf and download all night long but from 2pm till about midnight it was super slow. They need to come to your house and check for them selves when the problem happens!
