I am going to reuse the 320 gig hard drive its sata
will I have to format it in the computer its in before I swap or will it plug and play?

Will my dvr drive swap over also?

Thanks major upgrade from a p4 3.0 with 1g of ram and a 8400gs 512mb

OS: get 64bit.
GPU: 8800GT or wait for 8800GTS based on G92
What PSU you get? As far as you use 680i MB, I assume you may consider SLi. Allow more room for PSU, e.g. OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W , Thermaltake toughpower W0117RU 750W

Get ClubIT's Q6600

Get an P35-DS3R/L or an P31-DS3L

Get an Securemart's $75 Antec 900

Get an Zalman 9700

Try getting an 8800...

XMS2 DDR2-800 $41 after rebates

Get Rosewill's SLi Certified 550W 36A total...
 
I know that its doesn't show but that is a sli mother board EVGA 122-CK-NF63-TR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard for 159 And what about the hard drive questions that I have and what is wrong with Vista ultimate I have pretty much already bought this stuff have I messed up

This is my first build will every thing work once connected together just put the vista cd in the drive and go from there?

Yeah, you can... and yes...

SLi is crap. By the time you get the 2nd you could've bought an new and better card altogether.

8600GT SLi'd doesn't beat an single 8800...
 
The DVD drive will swap over without issues.

The hard drive will work as well. Reformatting is not strictly necessary, but I would recommend it. You will need to install the Operating System - even if your drive already has an Operating System it will not work at all without a reinstall.

As everyone's said, go for the 8800GT over the 8800GTS. What PSU are you looking at?
 
Its nvidia sli 500 watt with 36A on 3 12v rails will this computer be up to snuff for a while the way I am building it? What about the power button will it be on the case already and I just have to plug the connector into the motherboard?thats really all of my worries and should the MOB have screws that come with it.

I have already purchased these items on an impulse buy because BioShock crashes my computer now. But I was going to this year anyways this just kind of pushed me into it.

Can I just put this fan on my new cpu without the paste? It looks like it already has something on it but I havn't touched it. I got almost everything in today MOB CPU and cooling fan this evga MOB looks cool I installed the cpu and extra heat sink fan right below the cpu what is under that heat sink? Its got a tube that runs off of it down to something else? Still need case ram video card and psu will be here tomorrow. I have been studying the MOB for where the connections are and have become familiar with its connections for power. This is cool can't wait to play bioshock on it.:D
 
Yeah, the heatsink that come with is has pre-applied thermal paste. If it has something on the bottom of it, then thats what it is.

nVidia don't make power supplies, but yes, it should be sufficient - there aren't any PSUs on the certification list with those specs that wouldn't handle your system.

What about the power button will it be on the case already and I just have to plug the connector into the motherboard?

The required mounting screws will come with the case.
 
I messsed up on the amp draw its 46A total on 3 rails I just went and looked again. I really got the sli mother board for future expansion and to allow the ease of mounting this double slot video card without cramping other slots I may use later on. I do feel like a big dumby on my video card choice but I am sure I will be taken away by this new computer and getting away from this 3 year old dell. I actually bought the video card first for the computer that I have now not knowing there was a better chance of the earth caveing in that me fitting this thing into my case. so then I ended up building a new computer. Weird hu? But fun nontheless.
