Spam Emails Coming From Our Email Server

I am a Network Admin for a midsized engineering company using a Barracuda Firewall to prevent spam. Recently I was informed that we have been blocked by bellsouth.net for spam. When I investigated the matter, I found out there are spam emails coming from "cox.net" to "bellsouth.net" in the Barracuda log. Our domain name is not "cox.net" so how is an email from "cox.net" being sent to "bellsouth.net" through our server? We are also running a Sonic Wall for antivirus and it has picked up nothing.

Well, it's possible to send an email from anywhere and make it look like it came from anywhere else. My guess is the spam emails are phishing or scam emails, so the sender does not want anyone to know where they are coming from, so they use your domain as the cover.

Barracuda? May wanna lock that thing down a bit tighter... Set up a couple port scanners.

Why not Cisco?

The emails might be spoofed. This is easily done. I'm not going into detail as this would break the forum rules.
