Ultra DMA motherboard with Sata/ATA hard drive?

Hello. Just one probably stupid question. If my motherboard supports DMA (I guess the proper name is Ultra DMA), can I use a SATA hard drive or an ATA with it? I'm learning! Thanks everyone.

Most newer boards have Sata and IDE ports, if it does you can use either. What model of board do you have?
