hello all, just found this forum by googling cpu stuff then found you, i would like to have some infos here,

i have this computer
Processor Intel P4 630 3.0 GHz 2MB Cache
Memory DDR 1024M (3200)
Hard disc 250G S-ATA 8 MB Cache (Maxtor)
Grafic card nVidia 6200 TC (Pci-E)
Optical unit UJ-846 8X Dual-Layer Slim Slot Load DVD +- RW

P4M915GD1 UATX 9.6"*9.6" W/1394
Chipset: Intel 915G + ICH6

and i would like to optimize it for gaming and online gaming, for games such as crysis, battlefield... what i have until now seems to be a little limited, meaning image or buffering can scattered sometimes, any idea on how i could improve this?

i was thinking of changing the cpu with a intel dual core 3ghz and buying more ram, but how to know what are the capabilities limits for extensions?

thanks for reading and maybe helping.

more info about my pc can be found here

First of all, welcome to CF!

Second, can you even add more stuff to those computers?!? LOL

Now, about your comp, if you're going to be playing games such as Crysis which is very demanding in higher detail, you have to definitely get rid off that Pentium 4, complete trash for gaming. The best way to go since you have an intel mobo, is getting a core 2 duo processor like you mentioned. It doesn't necessarily need to be 3.0GHZ but at least get a Core 2 Duo. Regarding RAM, yes you would technically need 2GB to run Crysis at good FPS, and finally the video card. That video card is with all respect, will give you nothing but troubles if you want to play the newer games. Get something like a 8800GT which is at the moment the best card for the price a long wit the HD3870. Or you could wait for the new 8800GTS (512mb) to come out in December. But you MUST change that video card to play the newr games.

Hope that helped !

to change the cpu to a core 2 duo you wil need to change the mobo which inturn will mean you will have to change the ram and so on so a complete new build.

Ya see that won't run Crysis.

but how to know what are the capabilities limits for extensions?

what's that mean?

Ya like the others said, if you change cpu and get new ram youll need a new mobo, new psu. Almost new build if you keep the dvd drive and the hdd.

And definately a new gpu, that's a must.

if you want to play crysis, you need a new pc... as someone said, you can keep you hard disk and dvd drive...

with my system (p4 presscot 3ghz, 1,5 gb ram, geforce 6600 256mb 128 bit) crysis is nearly unplayable at very low settings... you need a new pc for that kind of games...

You cant use a AMD processor on a Intel Board!
I will suggest you wait until Jan08 to get the new 45nm CPU if you are not hurry.
8800GTX for $148.25 !? Buy it ASAP
