Wireless faster than Wired? WHY!?!?!

Im going to say this right off the bat, my internet is not fast because i live in the middle of the woods in farm country... so its supposed to be 512kb but we'er lucky if we get 300kb. anyways, i have a linksys Wireless-B (i know out of date but w/e! XD ) router.

HERE IS MY PROBLEM: my stepbrother has a laptop and uses the wireless internet from the router. The PC is wired to the router. For some reason, the wireless internet for the laptops is much better than the wired internet for the PC. The laptop gets much faster web browsing speeds, faster downloads, and better pings on WoW (usualy 200-300). The PC (which is wired) is slow to browse the web, gets only about 2/3 the download speed, and the ping on WoW is higher (usually 450-550)

I figured that a wired connection would be faster and more stable than wireless. Now i know some of you are thinking "its the computer thats slowing it down". well that is possible but the specs of the laptop and PC are pretty similar. same ram, same kind of vid card, only difference is the processor. so i really dont know what the problem is. i've even uninstalled all i could on the PC, run an anti-spyware, anti-virus, and defragged. nothing has helped.

so if any of you have any idea what the problem is , let me know. my two thoughts are:

1- its the router

2- the computer needs a complete wipe and start it over like new

Let me know what u think! thanks!!! :D

The laptop could be connecting to someone else's wireless internet. Kinda hard seen as you live in the middle of nowhere, but you never know! :)

Is your network card old or newish? Your ethernet cable might be knackered, have you tried another one? I know i'm pulling at strings here mate, but sometimes it's the small things that makes a big difference.

It almost has to be the computer that is slowing it down, not the router or the fact that it is wired. If you need proof just turn off the wireless on the lappy and plug it into the router and see if you get the same speeds.

well the laptop is for SURE not connecting to anyone elses high speed lol. i know that the network card.... meh.. is not new. prolly a good 3-4 years old. i just tried switching a cable. still the same. one thing i tried tho, is going from modem to pc, and when i do that the internet doesnt work at all... i dont know why. it only works from going to modem, router, pc.

also, i've noticed a few times that the status of the wired connection will sometimes flicker on and off. this leads me to think it could be the router and the connections are going bad. im going to borrow another router from someone and use it and see what that does.

keep the ideas coming! :D

to potaytoez... i ahvent tried that yet. good idea. bad thing is my stepbrother just left with the laptop for a week. so i wont be able to try that anytime soon. but i will definitely give that a shot

Can you post the specs of the two computers?

mmm.. not really i can try tho.. the pc has

1.5 GB of ram
2.8 GHz Pent. 4 Hyperthreading processor
radeon 9800 pro 128 mb vid card

thats about all i can think of at the moment. and the laptop? i know nothing about the specs.. all i know is that it's a Mac and the PC is windows
