What Would You Do, Would You Consult A Lawyer and/or Law Enforcement

Would really appreciate anyones opinion and advice on this. Right now, I'm planning to do nothing which I'm not sure is the right move but I'm not sure if this is financially worth contacting a lawyer on or maybe it is.

I just joined a forum, where for some bizarre reason, someone misunderstood things and thought I was a spammer because I was trying to promote a website
I just started on a related topic. Without going into the rights or wrongs of me giving my website a plug in one of my posts, lets just assume I was totally wrong, here is what this guy replied in writing to me- this is someone I never had any "dialogue with" online:

"You are, without a doubt, the single worst spammer I have ever seen. I mean, I don't think that someone TRYING to be bad at spamming could get any worse than you.

It won't be long before I've dug up your name, your address, personal email addresses, and phone number too.

If you'd rather these not be posted publicly on, say, every transexual and beastiality website that exists as well as any other gruesome venues that I happen to think of, you may want to make yourself scarce. Now.

Oh, and once again: Have a nice day"

Now I've been mean spirited online before but I never threatened anyone.
I'm not planning on going onto that website anyway, as I don't think much of
some of the members anyway, but should I just forget about this as someone blowing off steam or would you contact a lawyer and/or law enforcement?

When I complained to the guy who runs the forum, he deleted this wording from his post (I made a full copy) & he gave him a mild rebuke. Am I overeacting?
 
yeh-i think that the person himself is just an imiture little man trying to scare people--

i would have called his bluff and just said that you have made a few enquirys with the local police or you isp and that it is not possible for him to gain access to the information.

and even if he did, your isp has logged your inquiry so the matter could be taken further if that did actualy happen

I might have phrased it differently, but I'd have to agree. If everyone that made threats online where legally prosecuted then we'd have to build a few more prisons.

I might've made a comment about how I bet he just happened to know the best bestiality and transsexual websites. ;)

Ukulele, you are one to talk about "growing up." You could learn to use more respect when you reply to people on a forum!


Peaches, as illistrated above, people are quick to jump to harsh words when they are hiding behind a computer screen. I would bet that the possibility of the person that threatened you would have the resources, or brains to gain access to your personal information would be slim and none. I wouldn't worry about it.

someone has been watching too many hacking films, the only way he would get these is if you posted them on other sites like this and you can piece it together

I didnt even say it 'harsh' but come on, if someone says something stupid to you in a forum then get over it and move on with your life. Its not like you know the person or that they are actually going to get a hold of you for posting a link to a website you made.

Your comment goes both ways axgrinder.
