dont get a p4, atleast a pentium d or cheap c2d like an E2140-e2160 or like a 945 Pentium D...trust me, the pentium is not worth a rat's ass.

ok daisymtc i have to agree with you and that is a much better setup for minimal more dollars i have everything together except the msi board and i like the gigabyte board more but im not getting a video card for this comp just don't think it is needed at all....maybe I'm wrong but with no game playing besides pinball and cards, just don't see a point

thanks for your help, I'll prolly be ordering all of this to put together in a few days or so any other recommendations?

If the P4 is cheaper there's no reason not to get it. The computers at my college are all from HP, some are C2D and some are P4, and there's no practical difference for what we use them for. We're talking about a box for someone's parents here, not a new gaming toy.

You're joking! Literally! You HAVE to be! A computer is not a box, or I'd be rich :D

C2D's are the best bang for the buck. But seeing as you're still living in the "p4's rule the world right now" era.... you might need to update soon.

What I'm getting from you so far is "What? It's a parent. Go cheap and lazy on them."

I think buying them a better computer for the same price saves you money in the future to upgrade again..

Gigabyte have G31 motherboard as well. GIGABYTE GA-G31MX-S2, it is slightly more expensive than MSI. If you need onboard video, you need GA-G31MX-S2.
