Hi there

I was trying to connect two PC with a cable but it apparantly didnt work...

If I plug the cable in both computrs should there appear some notification? (takling about WIN XP)
When I did so the system did not recognize any changes and said that cable is unpluged... I tried it with several cables several times

Or use a router and run your main connection from the outside world to the back of it, and a seperate cable to each computer.

get a router it will make your life easier. there cheap enough.
besides being more secure.

what are you using it for?

if you want to transfer data between them, you need a cross over cable,
if you want internet on both, you need a router

Need the network for transer of data only, maybe some stuff like remote desktop and so on...

I do have the cross cable...

ok, so you need to connect that to both computers,

go into the network connection and go to properties,
go to tcp/ip and set the ip manually
ip address (first comp: 192.168.1.1 second comp: 192.168.1.2)
subnet 255.255.255.0
and everything else blank.
hit ok and go to command prompt
ping the other computer. if you can ping it, your good,
setup a folder that can be shared on the network
put your data in it and go to the other computer and enter the ip

Have not tried this before... Will try... THX

When you connect two computers together via a crossover cable, you need to manually set the IP's for each PC.
