My cpu is at 3.00GHz I read soemwhere that I can oc this cpu up to 4.00GHz.

Is this true?

Well, I've a D 940 and managed a 4.1... Not sure about stability/heat, though.

I think you could manage at least 3.5 stable, and close to 4.0, but not sure about stability there.

Would I notice a different from now oced to 3.5 and can I do it with stock heatsink and fan ?

My temps now are 50C

What Case/HSF are you using? D's typically run hot, at least my 840 did, but I idle at 32*C and load at 41*C.

As far as noticing a difference, what do you use your system for? Unless you game or run CPU-intensive applications, you'll not notice a difference from 3.0 to 3.5. From 1.6 to 2.1, then yes, but not with your setup.

Yeah I game and do a lot of multi tasking. I got the stock cooling and I got an Atx case btu I forgot the name of it.

I have 2 case fans also that I can change around.

Well, ditch the stock HSF and grab an after-market one and some Arctic Silver 5 CPU compound. You should notice lower temps. The stock HSF was crap. I use a Masscool HSF ($10 + shipping from Tiger) and AS-5 ($5 + shipping from Newegg). The HSF isn't the best, but it does a really good job of keeping the Pentium D 'oven' at a very respectable temp for me - it's a really under-rated unit, IMO. Being paired with AS-5 is what really makes it shine :)

What type of gaming? Define 'multi-tasking'. Several programs open at once (small CPU-usage background stuff, web-surfing) really won't benefit from an OC. Several CPU-intensive programs open at once (watching DVD, listening to music, gaming, CD burning) would.

Ya I do a lot of downloading and doing a lot of burning and encoding, listening to music and all that at the same time.

Encoding is quiet intensive imo.

I was gonna buy this HSF here:

The 9700LED is an awesome HSF. Kinda big and somewhat expensive (at least when I bought it), but if the size doesn't affect you, it should drop your temps drastically. Good luck with the overclock!
