ok I had always wanted a quad core pc for a lone time now and have been working my ass off to trying to get it. Heck I even when to Mississippi to be a waiter boy, (served 208 customers on average according to the sit book) some of you have already hear of the story of my friends laptop gets stolen:mad:

First things first.

I want to overclock it 5 years from now and have no interest on upgrading in the future.

I am not much of a gamer, but do play online games sometimes. so no need for the top of the line video card.

my primary use of this pc will be just the everyday stuff. mostly watching movies.

The chances are by the end of the day i will have like 15 media players open at the same time, and 20 other folders, and 30 pages of firefox open and the pc will be on for weeks at a time before i restart it.

with all that said, here is what i have so far.

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 $279.99
Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L $94.99
RAM - Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB $76.99
PSU - Rosewill RP550V2-S-SL 550W $54.99
GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130062 $89.99
Optical - Sony NEC Optiarc Black $29.99
HDD - need a recomandation of best value hdd
Case - Antec Nine Hundred $119.99
Monitor - need a recommendation atleast 19'

Everything comes to about 800 after shipping and mail in rebate with out the Hard drive and monitor.

I will not build this until January so should i just get the RAM now before the rebate is over?

I will be using Vista on that pc, should i get 2 sets of that 2GB dual chanal? do i even need it for what i do?

i would like to everything under $1,100USD

I have two 27" lcd tv monitor that i am using for my pcs right now but the resolution is to low for when i wants to play game. one is 1027/768 and 1366/forgot, in class right now.

Please let me know if i need to change anything to cut cost but not loss performance.

in class right now, will add anything that i missed later.

thanks

Why do you need a quad-core or want to oc it if your not using it for any sort of demanding applications?

The dual core i am using right now just a noise me sometimes because sometimes when i want to watch a certain show that is already open in the media player it lags when it starts again after being idle for like 5 hours.

I tends to keeps things open once i opened it. especially when i have like two online games loged into the world and i just minimize it and get right back and play it 4 or 5 6 or 10 hours later if it does not disconnect.

daisymtc does the 2600xt perform better than the 7600GT? HDCP is that the high definition thing?

Does the 7600GT supports DX10 in the future?

thanks

That PC will last you around 2 years. Then you'll need to upgrade again. It's called: Wait will after Christmas and grab a $200 quad. More cache, better performance.

I'd up video card to an 8800 series or the ATI equivalent. HDD, I would probably go for as much space as you can afford (I imagine you would want to save all those movies and such to your computer, or am I wrong).

oscaryu1 When is the new quad coming out? like first in 2 or 3month? I am not getting it until January so.

HumanMage I am not much of a gamer and the games that i play does not required any powerfull video card otherwise i would have gone with the 8800GT

The RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220144 Should just get it now before rebates expire, I know I will not be getting the DDr3s.

I will be suing Vista Premium or ultimate, on the new pc so should i just that that 2GB set or should I get 2 sets so 4GB all together?

or is 4GB over kill? how about 3GB? then what happens to the dual channel?

thanks
