I only have 1 agp slot 1.0 it has a 2x 32mb agp tnt2 card in it right now. Can I upgrade to a 4x? Reason I'm asking is all 2x I can find are only 32mb or less:confused:

Well I think there are 3 types of agp slot. agp 1.0, agp 2.0, agp pro. I'm thinking that with agp 1.0 my choices are limited but I'm not sure. I need a new card bad cause I'm getting some real bad ghosting on my monitor.

AGP 1.0 was also known as AGP 1x/2x and ran at 3.3V. AGP 2.0 is also knows as AGP 4x, and runs at 1.5V, AGP 3.0 is known as AGP 8x, and runs at 0.8V

So to answer your question, it's possible that an AGP 4x card will work, however if it is only compatible with the AGP 2.0 bus, then it wont.

well that sucks because when i look a card up i cant find what bus it accepts

You should be able to tell by looking at the cards interface, and comparing it to the chart I posted above.

well I only have a 200w power supply the pc is from 99 i think. just upgraded ram............i see cards that have identical slots in them but they still may not work cause of my old ass 1.0 slot.

It depends on how much the manufacturer wants to spend on the card to make it backward compatible with 3.3 volts

This 9600pro would work

This 9600pro would not work on his slot

Thank you:D I think I'm gonna try calling some local computer guys to see if they have anything I could buy

Well I'm not a gamer just want shockwave and such to run smoothly. 32mb to 64mb's will be a noticable difference. Man I really hate how agp interface is all screwy everywhere. 32mb riva tnt2 is agp2x not 4. Thats what got me screwed up in the first place that agp business.

Video memory isn't what determines performance (not alone that is). Going from your TNT2 to the MX2 is only a marginal improvement, you shouldn't be looking at the memory size when deciding what card to get.
