Vista & XP on same driver problem

Hey Guys,

On my Asus Notebook i want to install XP and vista. The idea being that Vista would be on 20gb of ther hdd and xp on 60gb as its a 80gb Disk, well its more 77 you know how it is.

so i loaded the XP disk and partitioned the drive to the 20/60 divide that i wanted.

i wanted Vista on the first 20 and than XP on the 60.

so i insert the Vista disk and install Vista, no problems at all. i think finalyl get it all loaded up and i know have vista. i check in My computer to see if the other partition that i created is there and its not.

so i then go to computer management>storage and create a partition for 28gb as thats all it would let me do.

so this is where its starting to go all wrong... oh the joy.

i then decide i'll settle for this even though its not what i really wanted.

i then install XP on the second partition and when it was loading drivers etc and was about to complete it asked me to remove the XP disk. i done this and when the computer rebooted it said "error loading OS" so it wont load either Vista or XP.

where have i gone wrong and what can i do to resolve this?

thanks in advance guys :)

just hope to get it sorted :)

any question etc then please just ask :)

I don't really understand this, some1 will possibly, but what did you mean with that; Did you mean to create two accounts on notebook or just two partitions with different Operating Systems?? Because I didn't know that you can do the last thing...

I would start over and install XP first. You see, if you install Vista after XP, Vista will automatically create a boot menu for the XP installation. There could be a number of reasons for the "error loading OS" problem. Or you can try running a repair w/ the Vista DVD. If it's a simple boot loader problem, Vista will create a boot menu for the XP installation.

thanks mep916 i'll give that a go. i think i'll try and do some form of repair and take it from there.

The one thing that i hate about Vista is it takes ages to install :(

best get to work then :)

thanks again and i'll keep this thread updated :)

Well i tried recovery and that hasnt worked so im starting from scratch and XP is now installing :)

That's odd...I've noticed that Vista installs much faster than XP.

hmmm could that be computer related or OS related? i think i just have no patience :)

Good Luck!

thanks im going to need it :)

If the repair with the Vista DVD doesn't work, post you're specific problem(s). You don't want to reinstall both OSes unless you absolutely have to.
