IE7 quit working on me and I have no idea why. I tried to uninstall it and then reinstall it but it still dont work. I am using DSL and I went into tools and selected diagnose connection problems and it told me my connection was good. I also tried LAN settings and selected (Automatically detect settings) and still nothing. The only thing I get is the (The page cannot be displayed) no matter what site I try. Then as a last ditch resort I tried uninstalling IE7 and installing IE6 but it said it could not compleat the installation because I had IE7 on my PC even after I uninstalled it...whats up with that? Anyway I use firefox for the most part but I need IE to access some sites like my bank, does anyone have a fix for this?

for a temporary solution you can try MAXTHON (IE based)
did your pc install any updates as of late ? if so u can try system restore but the only thing that comes to my mind in your situation is repair windows.

Yes windows did install updates right before IE quit working as a matter of fact???

Anyways thanks for the IE based tip I will try that, I realy dont want to do a full system restore.

I am also going to try just a sfc /scannow and see what it finds.

Don't bother too much mate...
I've been looking for another browser today and yesterday...I remember I was arguin with people here that the IE is the best browser...last three days my IE blocks (This program is not responding) and it changes my resolution ( like changes fonts and all that stuff)...I found opera, but I'm not satisfied because it doesn't have Favorites...I'm in shit really, and this is probably my chance to find out what to do, too.

I just downloaded that Maxthon browser that Patrickv recommended and it works for all the sites I cant use firefox for (Thanks Patrickv) but I still have the burning question of what happend to IE in the first place? I am one of those people that if something does not work right it realy bothers me and I need answers. Does anyone know how I can completely uninstall IE7 so I can try to reinstall IE6 and see what happens?

I found opera, but I'm not satisfied because it doesn't have Favorites
Opera has favorites it's called (bookmarks) it's the same thing as favorites.

When you uninstall IE there is something in the regestry or something left behind that tells windows you already have the newest version of IE installed...it is to keep people like me who want to switch back to IE6, in short it is microsofts attempt to keep your computer up to date and secure. However when I uninstalled IE7 I ran both CCleaner and regedit as well as searched the regestry for any remaining IE files and found nothing...so what needs to be deleted in order to reinstall IE6?

like i mentioned earlier, a repair (optional) can fix a whole bunch of problems especially IE and WMP. just so you know

cheers
