Will this work?

I have no intention on connecting anything to a computer, but i have a 17" lcd computer screen (i.e. VGA 15 pin female lead end).

If i buy a VGA 15 pin male to RCA female adapter, will i be able to put the yellow RCA from my Sony PS2 into this and use the monitor as a screen for gameplay.

Obviously the red and white audio RCA will go into a stereo device.

Possible or not possible?

Will there be delay?
e.g. When i move controls will the image move instantly or will there be a 1 second delay.

Where can i purchase one of these adaptors?
I have searched and they are hard to come by in-store, so is online purchase my best option?

VGA and composite are two different things there. The RCA yellow out is for the composite input on a tv. That's a totally different signal type there. You first would have to convert the signal to pc standard vga output. Simply using an adapter won't work there.

The best seen now with newer pcs as well as gaming systems would be sharing one of the new High Definition flat screen or lcd tv screens that can serve as a pc monitor as well. That type of display will accept digital output from the newer video cards as well as input from PS2 or other gaming systems.

The conversion from gaming to vga is usually costly and doesn't see the type of results you want to see once you get it working in some capacity. I do see adapter setups that allow both depending on the monitor used. A crt would be out entirely while some newer lcd monitors can be used in a dual function.

There is one product remarking about hating not having a tv free in the home when going to turn on your PS2 system blah blah blah and so forth. But I doubt it would be available where you are located. http://www.viewonline.com/pages/articles/innovationpsvgabox.htm

This would be the type of product depending on how good those are. The better option in the long run with tv going HD in 2009 and effecting you eventually would be looking into a display you can use for either.

Is there anyway to run ps2 through the computer then? Im not keen on this option but if it is simple and cheap i will give it a go......

The only type of device you can add in that willl accept any type of tv signal is a tuner card. Usually those see the 75ohm threaded connector with some seeing s-video. X-Box 360 is the closest gaming console to the pc platform using the dvd type there. Microsoft teamed up with IBM to delevelop that system.

As a rule you are working with two different things entirely where a shared display like one of the newer flat screen or lcd tv would be far more suitable due to the vast differences. On pcs you often see OS and software differences while for gaming systems you are looking at the entire hardware differences. They were strictly designed for tv display and see the best results there.

Alternately, you can get a TV Tuner. When you say you don't want to plug anything to your computer you meant inside the case right? Because you can get external TV Tuners that plug in your USB. You could play your PS and even watch TV if you get a cable to connect to that.

The problem most seem to complaint about when trying to do things that way is the lack of performance and other problems that come up. The tuners and capture devices are intened to allow the usualy type of signal through while gaming consoles look for high definition. Primarily that means direct to display rather then 3rd party intervention.

Ya, you're right. However pip1011261 would have to get something better than an RCA adapter for his PS2...

I haven't even touched a gaming console in loooong time since I generally look into feeding video in through a capture or tuner card with any games being in pc format. The composite method for something like PS2 or another gaming console would simply prove to be too raspy and not what you want there.

Some type of image quality as well as signal booster designed into an addon would likely see the high price to go with it. Accessories can often see those as well as hardwares for something like that.
