which of the two is better?

Indeed, Gigabyte. Lots of problems with the IP35.

I have heard good things about the Intel P35 Northbridge, it came recommended to me. Can we get to the bottom of this?

The Gigabyte has faster RAM, DDR2 1066 vs 800
The Gigabyte has 8 USB ports vs 4
The Gigabyte is certified for Vista while the Abit is not

Gigabyte seems to win...

take into account the reviews as welll, Gigabyte's 77% vs Abit's 65%

17 of 25 Threads dealing with IP-35 problems, and that's just the first page. It should be noted that I do not have experience with this board, but these problems (which have been evident since the Board's release) prompted me to go try the IL9 Pro instead.

I never said the P35 chipset specifically, as other Board manufacturer's are very successful with them. However, it seems that there is something specific to Abit's Board that is to blame. The Gigabyte Board the OP is looking at has the same chipset - tons of folks on CF love it.

So if you don't state something specifically, someone is open for general interpretation. You said the IP35 had problems.. never once associating that with soley Abit boards, so of course I may see this as ALL boards. Please be specific, thanks.

Umm...the IP35 *is* an Abit Board... Abit often designates Boards with an 'I'. See mentioned: http://www.uabit.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=44

The OP:

Me (referring to the OP question about either the mentioned Gigabyte Board or the mentioned Abit IP35, the only two Boards he was asking about):

It was my understanding that IP35 is an Abit Board, and does not stand for Intel P35. For the record, the P35 chipset is nice; the IP35 Board is not. Perhaps click the links and view the actual topic at-hand next time so we can eliminate any confusion?
