About 4 days ago my laptop got attacked and is now infected ive tried using many anti-spyware programs to get rid of the spyware, trojans, worms etc on my laptop. Ive used Ad-Aware 2007, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Spyware Terminator, CounterSpy and WinPatrol but i cant get rid of the nasties. Am i just doing something wrong? XP Antivirus tells me that there are 11 infections, but because im not registered i can only scan and not get rid of the infections. The infections they are:

- Trojan Worm.Win32.Womble
- Trojan.Win32.Agent.brk
- Trojan Worm.Win32.NetSky
- Trojan Infostealer.Banker
- Trojan.Tooso
- Spyware Spy.HTML.Paylap.bg
- Spyware.IEMonster
- Spyware.IMMonitor
- Adware Zlob.PornAdvertiser.ba
- Backdoor Win32.Rbot.fm
- Dialer.Xpehbam.biz_dialer

Does anyone know how i can get rid of these infections? Im not good with computers and ive tried everything that i know to get rid of viruses but nothings working.

For some reason i have 3 icons on my desktop that i dont remember installing and everytime i delete them they appear after i turn off the laptop and turn it back on. Thay are Error Cleaner, Privacy Protector and SPyware and Protection. Are they part of the spware on my laptop?

Another problem im also having is with the internet explorer window. It opens automatically every few minutes, is this part of the spyware? Also is there anyway i can stop the windows security alerts and the flashing cross that pops up on my toolbar every few minutes?

If anyone can please help me with how to get rid of the infections or any advice, that would be fantastic! I need help BADLY!!!
 
Firstly, XP Antivirus is considered a rogue security program, since it displays fake warnings to try to get you to purchase the software. I strongly suggest that you uninstall it. Please click on Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. Click on XP Antivirus and click Remove.

Once done, please delete the following folder:
C:\Program Files\XPAntivirus

It sounds like you have a Smitfraud infection, but we'll need to confirm that.

Please download the HijackThis installer from http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe.

Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

When the Notepad window opens choose Edit -> Select All to select the entire log, and copy and paste the log into a reply post.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Once done, please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a RiskTool; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between good and malicious use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Im having trouble removing XP Antirus it doesn’t appear in the add and remove programs. Im also having trouble with the SmitfraudFix. I downloaded it from my computer and put it on to a USB but I don’t know how to open it on my laptop. When I open the SmitfraudFix folder form my computer it just displays 16 boxes. Am I doing something wrong. Sorry but I am really bad with computers so please bare with me lol. But anyhow I managed to get the log from Hijack This

You definitely have a Smitfraud infection, this should allow you to use Smitfraudfix against it. Please download http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe - it's a single file version of Smitfraudfix. Copy it to USB memory stick, and then onto your laptop.

Please print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot to Safe Mode (tap F8 just before Windows starts to load and select Safe Mode from the list).

Once in Safe Mode, double-click SmitfraudFix.exe which you just downloaded.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter to delete infected files.

You will be prompted :

Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?; answer Yes by typing Y and press Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer Yes by typing Y and press Enter.

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
 
How do i reboot in safe mode? When i press F8 nothing happens. When my laptop turns on it has msg that says press F2 for system setup and F8 for boot selection device menu. Am i suppose to go to the boot selection device menu? When i click to that there are 4 options

1. +HDD
2 CD/DVD
3. FDD
4. Lan

Am i suppose to pick one of them to go to safe mode?
Also how do i restart in normal windows?
 
That's too early - you need to press F8 after that screen. There's no prompt, so it can be difficult to find the right time.

Alternatively, there's another way to get into Safe Mode. Click on Start -> Run. Type in msconfig and click OK. Click on the BOOT.INI tab and check /Safeboot. Click Apply then Close then Restart.

Your system will reboot into Safe Mode. Now we need to turn off the Safe Boot option. Click on Start -> Run. Type in msconfig and click OK. Click on the BOOT.INI tab and uncheck /Safeboot. Click Apply then Close then Exit Without Restarting.

Once done, proceed with the instructions in my previous post starting from "Once in Safe Mode, double-click SmitfraudFix.exe which you just downloaded."

To restart into normal Windows, just restart as you normally would - it will go back into normal Windows.

Great, that's gotten rid of the Smitfraud infection, now let's remove XP Antivirus.

Please run HijackThis and choose Do a system scan only.

Place a check next to the following entry:
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [XP Antivirus] C:\Program Files\XP Antivirus\xpa.exe
Please close all open windows except for HijackThis and choose Fix checked

Please delete the following folder:
C:\Program Files\XP Antivirus

Additionally, Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
Updating Java:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > Add or Remove Programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
    It should have next icon next to it:
    javaicon.gif

    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:

Please reboot and post a new HijackThis log. How are things running now?
 
Haven't downloaded the new java, which one am i suppose to download, Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Online or Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Offline? Also can i save it onto a USB and then install it on the laptop or do i need to download from the laptop? Anyhow everything on my laptop is working perfectly as it was before. Yes, all the infections are gone, your logfile appears to be clean.

You can copy the file on your USB memory stick if you use the Offline Install.
 
Just to make sure, i also posted my problem on another computer forum and when i posted my SmitFraudFix Log and Hijack This log someone told me to do this

The smitfraudfix cleaned some of it, there are still be items to be fixed. We need to do some cleaning now. The HijackThis log is a nightmare right now.

Follow through with this set of instructions.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. ATF Cleaner.exe

Make sure that all browser windows are closed.
* Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
* Under Main choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
* Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
* Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
* Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser
* Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
* Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Please download Combofix by sUBs from either here or here

Save Combofix.exe to your your Desktop.

1. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts. (from the keyboard select 1 and press enter)
2. When finished, it will produce a log for you.
3. Attach that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause your computer to stall
