Router install ip problems

Ok, here's there deal. I have a belkin router. I set it up so that I could be wireless on my laptop whilst the family still used the home computer. It worked fine. Then the home computer was really messed up so it got formatted and the guy who did it messed up the installation of the internet. The internet was on and off working. I rang up my ISP and they said that it's settings were all messed up and it didn't have an IP address and when it did connect it said "limited or no connectivity" and on the whole was just messed up.

Anyway, I tried re-installing my router and although I selected "Dynamic IP" at the start of the install, it would get to a point where it asked me to input static IP details and it just wouldn't me connect or install it thanks to the modem being all messed up. Anyway the modem has since been fixed and everything is fine but when I try and install my router it still does the same thing and asks for static IP details. I took my router to a frieneds house and tried to establish a connection there and his connection has been fine for years. Anyway it once again asking for static IP details. So I'm guessing that it's router that is now the problem.

Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks.

Normally i would say to check the router and internet settings but you have seemed to already have done that.. it might be a setting in the BIOS is the only thing I can personally think of.. but what do i know? lol jk
good luck!

im sorry but at what stage is it asking of a static ip address, can you take a screen shot and post it?
you dont need to "install" a router, you plug it in and go to the routers config page normally something like 192.168.2.x (where x is normally 0 or 1 )
what is the model of the router?

there is nothing in the bios that would cause this (you are aware of what the bios is right? :) )

Where all the main settings are? but what exactly? and also, you really dont need the router software in order for it to work? didnt know that.
but while we're talking, check out my recent questions i just posted.. i need help!:D

My router is at home and away at university so I can't take screenshots or anything but I'll try to remember the most I can. I can't remember the model exactly but I think it was eitherF5D7230-4 or F5D7230-4v7.01. And basically it would ask me to connect the cables and the power and then it would for the routers "presence" and then check for the internet connection, it would be at that point that it asked for the IP.

Hope this helps.
