looks alright, too bad you didn't spare me that 8800gts jk :P

ha ha.

Do you think I'm being too cheap offering him my old IDE HD? Are there any good deals on SATA HD's right now?

EDIT: Maybe this one: 160 GB Hitachi SATA. $48.99. Only 8MB cache, but I don't think he'll notice teh difference.

Nothing wrong with reusing something if that's all he needs.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Currently, the HD is just sitting in a bag w/ other unused components. I'd like to put it to good use. :)

Look at the hec Orion 585W... It's serving me AMAZINGLY well right now. $30 for a PSU that can have dual rails, 39A, 585W, and can hold quite a number of stuff....

As you Linked, you can get a SATA HDD for only 1-2 more than a comparable IDE. If the IDE still works, though, go with it :) I doubt he'll miss the speed for the most common applications, and that's if he's even uses SATA currently. I'd do a thorough check of the IDE drive though - maybe use the Speedfan tool for the on-line analysis - just to make sure it has plenty of life left.

Rosewill 550W. Any one of those will do :) All great PSU's.

Otherwise, StealthXStream 600W.

I'm gonna stick with the CM, although both of the PSU's you recommended are great. You'll be the first to know if it takes a crap on my dad. :P

I'll get the SATA drive for the OS and applications, and let him use the IDE for additional storage. The hard drive passed a SMART analysis, so, for now, everything should be OK. :D

Just saying, but SMART can be wrong (:() It reported my WDC 2GB HDD "imminient failure"... Ran a bunch of tests, and it worked for another 1/2 year before I upgraded..

I'm not really worried about it. I'll have him get an external HD so that he can make regular backups. ;)

Nice signature.
