Is it worth it to wait?

Should i wait until January for the prices to drop (Intel 45nm) so that i can build a new computer, or should i just build one now?

If you wait by the time the prices go down they will be announicing new stuff that will be coming out when the prices go down. I would just get it now cause if you wait there will be something better when you decide to buy.

The 45nm has a higher cache, FSB, better stepping, and overall should be a better CPU. I'd for sure wait and get one.

well quad core, but the core 2 duos (45nm) are supposedly faster and have more cache, no? Does Cache really matter?

Does Cache really matter?

Yes! Cache really does matter. It can make huge differences in performance. It can save massive amounts of processing time during RAM refreshes (which happens every 16ms on DRAM)

I would say just wait a little bit longer. Obviously, there is always going to be something better out there and something newer coming out. However, in the first quarter of 2008, Intel will be releasing the Q9770. Why not wait a little bit, get the newest CPU, and have the best for just a few months?

because i will only be able to afford a 45nm duo, not quad. How much will the slowest quad cost approximately (45nm)?

Not 100% accurate, but the cheapest Quad has half the cache of the Q9450. I'd either go Q9450, but if you cannot, go with the E8500.

you realize you made 3 posts right? lol

quad cores are better, unless each core in the e8400 could possibly have a 200% increase from the cores in the q6600

i think q6600, bc its quad, which is the way of the future.

whyd you ask the question then if you knew the answer. I say the dual core because there are going to be better quads out and by the time the software utilizes all four cores the q6600 will be obsolete and there will be better quad cores out by then.

oh, well thanks for explaining. I get it now......i actually agree more but am still leaning for the q6600. Well thanks for helping me out.......
