RAM not going to dual channel

I just purchased 4gb of ram for my gateway M-6307 laptop. I got the correct type, 667mhz DDR2 SO-DIMMs... and I know vista only shows up to about 3gb of it, but its only using 2gb.

The BIOS settings show that all 4gb are in and it reads it, but its only in single channel mode, rather than dual channel.

How would I go about fixing that problem?

If I recall correctly, 32bit operating systems only support up to 3.5GB or something like that. Unless you upgrade to 64bit, you probably won't see the full amount.

Also, where are you checking the total RAM and the dual channel mode? Check in the bios as it's probably more accurate than windows.

oh =p well thats silly, the document about it that I got from gateway said it supported a max of 4gb =p oh well... guess I'll return em

yeah,I talked to a gateway specialist, and they said it does support 4gb(3gb really) and I got the BIOS to read it in dual channel mode rather than single, just had to put them in and click F9 to set the BIOS to Defaults =p so it put it in dual channel... however, after there, the OS wouldnt startup. I hit a BSOD each time it got to the first loading bar before the welcome screen, and it did this everytime. I put the old 2gb kit back in, and it worked...

I figure this means its bad RAM that I purchased. Any suggestions or comments to my new conclusion?

Any possible way of getting that for free? definatly would be nice to get one of them.

EDIT: nvm its on the left where it says download. :) A+++

You can also try putting one memory module in at a time to see which one works. Run the normal applications you use with your operating system to see if all the RAM is good.
