Problem with custom themes and styles.

I have patched my uxtheme.dll with the UXtheme multipatcher v5.5. However, whenever I try to load a new theme or visual style by double clicking on it, it just comes up with the display properties window and a preview of the theme which is no different from my current one. Why is it not showing the right theme/style? I cannot even select my new themes and styles from the dropdown boxes.

Help is appreciated.

Also, I want to make my desktop look Vistaish but I don't want to install crap like Windowblinds and other stuff. I just want to be able to use .theme files and styles without having to worry about extra software.

AMD 4200+ X2
2GB RAM
XP Pro x64 edition
Nvidia GeForce 7800GT 512MB

make sure you click on the one that looks like below - WINDOWS VISUAL STYLE FILE

in my view, you are clicking the one below

windows theme file, which in most custom themes don't work

if you want a vista look, go in member list and look for Kornowski and look in his sig

cheers

I tried clicking the style as well but it's the same thing - the display window pops up and the preview is exactly the same as the style I am currently using (default XP style).

Also, I don't see anything about styles in that member's sig

hmm, yeah kornowski removed the vista theme from his sig,ok , anyways, put the files (themes) in
"C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes "
now, check the appearance tab again, and see if windows picks up the files, you've placed there.

It can pick up the theme but not the visual style. Selecting the theme does nothing to change my current theme, though.

ok first things first, download the MCE (Royale) theme from HERE
see if that works, if so repatch your system to make it back to original.(so themes don't work)
Reboot,and patch again.

now apply custom themes and let us know.
if that doesn't work, u can always repair windows that will reload your system in full - optional

but am pretty sure theres something small we are overlooking though

Yes, the Royale theme works well. Both the theme and the visual style are applied and both appear in the display window preview properly.
