Hey guys,

I was wondering, is there a huge difference between the XFX 512MB 8800GT and XFX 512MN 8800GT extreme edition??? I know that clock speeds and everything are higher because of overclocking but is there anything about this card which can't be acheived through overclocking the regular 8800GT?

I am looking at getting 2 8800GT's in SLI and the regular edition is $40 cheaper than the extreme so i can save $80... if I overclock the regular, would it be the exact same as the extrreme edition or is there something else I should know?

I will be using the XFX nforce 680i LT SLI motherboard which I believe supports the ntune facility to overclock the graphics cards so would I be better off getting the cheaper of the two and overclocking myself???

Thanks in advance

The Extreme Editions as you said are just overclocked from the factory. Most likely you can surpass the overclock of the Extreme Edition yourself by using overclocking programs, the only difference is that the Extreme Edition is guaranteed to run at those speeds, and any card that can't be set to them will be used as a non-overclocked model.

so you're saying that I should be able to overclock the standard version but there is no guarantee that it will be able to run at the same speed of the Extreme edition.

Even if I don't get it to the same point, I should still be able to overclock it somewhat right?

Exactly. Usually the overclocks on the Extreme Edition and similar versions aren't that extraordinary, and almost all base models can surpass it.
