hi all,

im looking to build my first system and i want it to be a small form factor system. ive looked around at some cases and found a couple of micro ATX cases but i wanted to know if it would be compatible with some of the other peripherals ive chosen. i was looking at the intel q6600, but i wasnt sure of a mobo that would fit the case and support the chipset. any recommendations? also, do i need a smaller graphics card or is a standard one going to fit most micro cases? thanks.

Yeah you can put a Q6600 on a micro-ATX mobo as long as its socket LGA 775 and has a front side bus (FSB) of 1066Mhz I reckon. And about the graphics card, if it fits your case, go for it! :)

Not necessary a low profile, depends on what case he/she had. but it is true that he need a shorter GPU. but normally those mid-range GPU will fit mATX case

But definitely anything above a 8600 won't fit into that case ;)

My GFX gives me 1/4" space from the HDD cage...:(

Well depends on what case it is. Many matx cases such as the Silverstone SG03 and Thermaltake Lanbox can fit 8800GT/S's, and maybe a GTX with minor modding.

thanks for all the input guys. ive been using pcs for years now and i figured its time i moved from milk to solid foods, in a sense. also, the pc im running right now i had custom built by a shop, but i picked out an asus mobo and i really like how it has performed for me for the past 3.5yrs of heavy 3d animation use and would like to hear some input on any asus mobos or if it makes a difference at all. thanks guys

oh and also, with the advent of the phenom, i was surprised to see a $199.99 price tag on their base model and was wondering how you guys would weigh in on that. in general terms , to the best of my knowledge, amd's are for gaming and intel is for power computing. in price it looks that the phenom beats out the intel, but as for speed, usability, OCing and such, when the dust settles, what do the comparisons look like. to me it looks like a comparible product for less, but thats with a base knowledge of component info. thanks
