AMD 5000+ BE or Intel E4500? Other CPU reccomendations...

I am planning on building a new computer coming up, and am trying to work out what CPU to get. I have about $600 to spend on the entire computer (minus monitor and other peripherals). I plan on equipping it with 2 gb of DDR800, Radeon 3850 (possibly an 8800GT instead), and Windows Vista.

I am trying to pick out my CPU, and will decide on a motherboard after that ($100 or less on the mobo). I plan on overclocking as far as is reasonable. have overclocked before.

Which will perform better with graphical games on a 22" widescreen LCD:

AMD 5000+ BE or Intel E4500?

Also, if the performance difference is worth the extra money, should I go with an E6550 or E6750? How much does the FSB speed affect performance?

What do you recommend?

Thank you.

The E4500 can OC to 3ghz easily, so i'd taker that over the AMD. If you plan on keeping them stock, then the AMD would win, but OC wise, the E4500 will kick it's ass. And the E6550 or E6750 won't offer huge performance gains, they will be better, but only by a small margin seeing as the E4500 can overclock like a beast. I personally chose the E6550 over the E4500, i don't know why when i think about it now, but i felt safer getting something with a 1333mhz fsb since i'm still not that knowledgable about overclocking.

Oh, and the black edition doesn't come with a heatsink/fan.

AMD's better stock, Intel's better at overclocking... But mainly, it depends on his motherboard and chipset. The E4500 would also need better thrermal compound, heatsink and fan, and probably some good case fans.

I would also not recommend OCing to a beginner. E4300 is better at OCing if you didn't know... I'd go for that OCing wise.

That motherboard is that you selected is out of stock at NewEgg.com. NewEgg is saying the motherboard you selected may be back in stock on January 7th though.

5000 BE, unlocked multiplier allows higher oc'ing without having ram as the limiting factor, the only limiting factor is cooling.

it comes down to what chipset you want, persoannly id go with a p35 chipset thus choosing the e4500, but if i had more money id look at a nice 790FX board paired with the 5000+ BE with a Zalman 9700 cooler, could more than likely get 3.5 or better out of the CPU with that combo.

I plan on buying a nice air cooler. My question is, what processor can I get the best performance out of if I plan on over clocking as high as I can safely go? Would an AMD 5000+ running at 3.2 Ghz be the same as an Intel E4500/E4300 running at 3.2 Ghz?

It looks like the E4300 is getting pretty good over clocking results. Would I have better luck going with the E4300, or getting an E6750 with a higher FSB. Would the E6750 OC well?
