Actually you're wrong. The Yorkfield came out in November which is a 45nm quadcore desktop cpu. The Penryn is a mobile laptop cpu (45 nm) of which the earliest models are scheduled for Q1 of this year 08.
Edit: Also the Penryn is a dual-core not quad.

dont worry even the old pro's above get confused. In essence the penryn is a shrunken conroe. However the addition of SSE4 given better improvement than a standard vanilla shrink. Intel tend to operate 2 year cycles, i.e year 1 introduce new architeture, year 2 shrink it, go back to year 1 again.I'm very confused, I thought the penryn was intells new 45nm desktop processors
