Motherboards and limiting CPU power

Hello all,

It's time for an upgrade and I've finally decided on my mobo and cpu.

For the mobo I'm taking this:

and for the cpu it will be the athlon 64 x2 6400+ brisbane.

My question is, is it possible for the motherboard to limit this processors power? Will a front side bus of 800mhz slow the processor down at all?

I know some will say don't get a 75$ board for that processor but I'm settled :P. It's already making me ill thinking about how much I'm spending on other components haha.


Should I get something slower? I mean for gaming, will I really notice a difference between the 5000+ and the 6400+ lets say?
 
wait... if the mobo doesn't support anything higher than 800mhz, then that CPU is not compatible with that mobo. you can have a mobo rated higher than the CPU, but not the other way around

as for game play between 5000 and 6400, the CPU will make less of a difference than the GPU. if you're building to for a gaming machine, i would focus on choosing a GPU and spending money there instead

So what do I look for when matching a cpu with this motherboard? What numbers need to match up?
 
you can either match the CPU to the mobo, or match the mobo to the CPU. first of all, the socket has to fit the CPU. most intels currently use socket LGA775. next check if the rated speeds are compatible. they can either be the same or the mobo has to be higher. lastly, other favorable specs include SATA interface, DDR2/3, and PCIe slots. if the mobo doesn't have these, them most likely it's an older board
 
So the hyper transport speed of the cpu has to match the fsb speed of the motherboard?

I'm confused because there are customer reviews of the above board stating that they are using the exact chip I'm looking at (6400+ brisbane) in this board with no problems.
 
I picked it for the price. If you have any recommendations under 100 usd please let me know.

My mistake about the brisbane I meant to type windsor. So you're saying that this board has an actual fsb of 1000mhz therefore it will work with the 6400+?

Where do you see the speed the processor runs at? All I se is the hyper transport speed. Do you just divide that by 2?
