Computer Starts But Stays On Black Screen - Help

Hi,

My brother switched on his computer this morning and turned the monitor on, and it just stays black with the status button on the monitor at orange, so i tried it on another monitor and the same thing happens, just the orange status thing.

Then I thought maybe it was the graphics, so I tried another graphics card in it, and still the same thing.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

have you tried the monitor in the normal monitor port and not the graphics card

or

have you tried the monitor on another computer

he just switched it on, their is no beep or anything on startup or anything, but I took the graphics card out and it worked in another machine.

Any ideas? I was thinking the motherboard

Memory. Take one stick out at a time. Then vice versa. If it turns on, you have a dead stick. If it's like: 512-256 on your computer, usually the larger stick is dead... (As I have had 1GB of good RAM run well with one stick of smaller dead RAM)

it aint the ram, tried other bits in it, does this help :

I opened the case and when I start it up, the fan doesn't start at all.

Any help?

Which fan? CPU?

Most motherboards to not activate the fan until the CPU reaches a certain temperature... usually SMART Fan, or Cool n' Quiet.

Well i think this kind of problem is in your motherboard....
May be in your graphic card slot or in your chip set.........
