I have a HP Pavilion a737n
3200+AMD 64 Anthlon Proc.
1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM memory
200GB HD
(I looked inside the comp and see there are four slots, 2 which are empty so Im guessing They have 2 512 sticks in it if that helps.)

I have 3 questions.
1- How do i know how much memory my comp. can handle?
2- What is a good memory stick that is cheap I can use?
3- I have to get the stick that is PC3200 compatible, right?

1) System specifications provided by HP will show how much memory can be run likely 2-4gb maximum for that model. This is what is seen at HP.

2) There are vaious brands as well as types as far as timings. Generally on a prebuilt system the memory it comes with is a value ram. How the system is used will depend on the type whether value or performance memory where you generally choose a good name brand when seen onsale or simply priced lower.

3) The memory standard is the main thing to go by since a faster memory will be slowed down to that speed. Boards usually see 2 or 3 speeds supported. For a board that sees a DDR2 800 standard you might see 533, 667, and 800 while being able to run 1066 on some boards. For that model you may be able to run PC3400 433 or PC4000 533 but see that slowed to 400mhz.

And all I have to do is pop out those two 512 cards and pop in the new 1gb each?

I was looking into getting this:
PNY - 2-Pack 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 Memory
Model: D22GX53OPT | SKU: 8221453
# Compatible with PC2-3200 and PC2-4200 memory slots
# Kit of two 1GB DDR2 DIMM modules for 2GB total memory
# Operates at up to 667MHz
# 240-pin DDR dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs)

Is this a good chip?

You should have gloves on, or just handle the memory by the ends. Because static electricity may easily destroy your sticks.

nah u can manage with out gloves or anti-static wrist bands, just make sure you touch your PC case a metal part before you start I think it discharges you static from you or somat and your ready to go,

common sense dont chuck it around its pretty fragile stuff, and try to hold it on the edges

Most will simply lay their arms down on the edge of the case and then open up the plastic tray the dimms will be shipped in. The important thing is not walking around on carpeted floor generating esd and not touching the contacts on the dimms themselves.

You then simply press down evenly until the retainers snap inplace once each dimm is in correctly. You'll see where the small in the dimm slot fits into the recess seen where the contacts are. That's a one fit seen there.

If the memory is still 184pin type dimm and runs it will slowed down to the speed of PC3200 memory mainly 400mhz total. On the other hand if DDR2 not DDR memory that will see 240pins and will not even fit into a DDR slot.

Generally you can tell fast by one look at that memory while ano ther PC3200 dimm is out of the slot. The recess is not lined up with one longer in length then the other.

You can only add DDR Rams to your computer. Also you hav to check for the maximum Frequency of ram that your FSB can handle. It will be waste of money if you put anything in excess than what is supported.

Memory Installed = 1 GB (2 x 512)
Maximum allowed = 2 GB (2 x 1GB) requires the replacement of the installed 512 MB DIMMs
Speed supported = PC3200 MB/sec
Type = 184 pin, DDR SDRAMDIMM slotsTwo
Open DIMM slots None

The memory standard as seen in the specifications is what to go by as a rule. While prices have been lower on the faster memory and can often be used on a board seeing a slower speed prebuild have a tendency to be more particular about the memory used.
