Cheap setup, Asus P5B-SE any good?

Building a PC for a mate who wants a very cheap setup just for work, but he wants it to be quite fast. Going to be using an E6420 because I have one I'm going to sell him. Anyone know if the Asus P5B-SE P965 is any good. Nothing is going to be overclocked so I'm not worried about that. Cheers.

Some people prefer the P065 for ocing while for stock builds the preference here is for models seeing the nForce chipsets. That model sees the faster fsb over the other 3 models seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2010200280+50001315+107171850&name=Intel+P965 But don't plan on running any quad core cpus.
 
Besides seeing a few bad boards come in over the last few years Asus generally offers more features then brands like Abit or DFI while closely competing with Gigabyte, MSI, and a few others in general. But without any plans for ocing or SLI that would work while the preference is for nForce not Intel and certainly not VIA or SIS!

MSI Motherboards are in about the same league as Abit (so so). DFI has as many features as any boards and are some of the best overclocking boards you can buy.

Besides only needing one post for all that, when you use the selector seen at newegg for what cpu type(Core 2 Extreme or quad core listed first) that's the one out of 4 seen at the link there that is bypassed.

Sorry to say Abit is better known for ocing along with MSI old Neo series over DFI. When looking over the actual specifications when going to decide on what make and model board to go with besides Asus DFI and Abit always seem to fall behind MSI and Gigabyte for some reason.

Do you decide motherboard spec. by using newegg? All the boards at your links support the Quad Core. Not even going to comment on your knowledge on motherboards and what is better. Hence your post!

So you think is better for you to misinform people by giving false information! You beat all, you give false info. then accuse people of highjacking a thread by correcting you. Is that one reason why your mixed up all the time because you dont listen to anything.

You would have to overclock the board to see the 1333mhz fsb. Otherwise that will see 800/667/533 on that model. Many would prefer the E6600/E6700 or oc the E6300 on a gaming build.

Again way off! I always go directly to the manufacturer since newegg and other vendors always manage a few misprints! But you seem to have forgotten that fact when I was looking for an AM2 board last summer with more then 2 pci slots.

Why would someone what a cpu for multiaking/server type build instead of more gaming suitable model for a gaming case? That's where you missed the point earlier.

1# The CPU tidyboy21 has is a 6420 that runs on a 1066 FSB not 1333, the board he picked has a 1066 FSB and can be overclocked to 1333 FSB

2# I think not, if you used the venders site you would have known they would supported a Quad core, you brought up the quad core.. And why would I have forgot something about you picking out a motherboard last year, I dont have the least bit interest of what board you buy!

3# I have no idea what that means or what your talking about between Server/multitasking, whos talking about that? Never mind I dont what some 3 paragraph run in circles story that ends up talking about socket As.

Again you didn't even listen when I mentioned that you had to oc the board to see the 1333mhz fsb with that model. If I used the vendor's site? I use something a little more accurate without ever seeing misprints. :rolleyes:



Yet newegg lists something else with Core 2 Extreme and not under quad core there.
 
Its funny you accuse people of not listening when you just run in circles. The processor he has runs on a 1066 FSB so whether or not it has or can overclock to 1333 means nothing and even more since he said he was not overclocking! Your the one that said going by neweeg they cound not use the quad core and I told you not to go by neweggs spec. that they could use a Quad. Now your telling me your not and telling me not to, am I missing something here or are you totally confused! First you say one thing- then didnt mean it that way- then you say you didnt say it-then they didnt understand it- then someone else said it. This is totally pointless!

Going in circles? You just contradicted yourself there trying to bash someone else while not posting anything useful for the O.P.! :rolleyes: To see how newegg separates catagories of boards compare the image here to the specifications right out of the user's manual for that model board.



Then take a look at the models seen on the page at newegg on their product page. There's no P5B-SE seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-core+/+Core+2+Extreme+/+Core+2+Duo+/+Pentium

Where did I mention anywhere that it wasn't available at newegg? If you read the thread you would have seen the link for it earlier. :rolleyes:

It was listed among the other 3 models at the link. But it's left out when selecting the quad core/Core2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo etc. selector courtesy of newegg there. When using the selector that brings up two other models but not that one!
