My new build is done! - Few Questions

Oh dude, these temps are without the overclock, the 2.7 is loooong gone, and its still this hot. I havent changed the heat sink / thermal pad. Hmm, maybe ill just get some AS5?

I would. Even if you don't use it yet, it's good to have some around. Intel's stock stuff is designed to provide "good enough" cooling at stock speeds, and that's what it's doing. Most people don't even realize that they can check their computer's temperatures and Intel knows that. You should definitely, at some point, invest in a nice heat sink and fan with heat pipes and all that stuff. They're neat.

Absolutely, but it's also pretty expensive. And large, you'll want to check how much room you have first. Read a lot of reviews on different brands before you make your decision. Ask people here too, in the CPU/cooling section.

Personally, I tried the Zalman CNPS9500 and CNPS9700 but chose the CNPS8000. It's smaller, lighter, cheaper, quieter and I like the mounting better, but the CNPS9700 cools the best. Not really a big issue for me, I've never overclocked.

The only thing that an aftermarket heatsink will do is (noticeably)lower the idle temps. Without lapping the CPU and/or heatsink you won't notice load temps going too much lower... The reason for this is because it can only transfer so much heat without good contact. And I should lap my E6850 & TUE, but I am too lazy...

lol.....ok.....i dont care about noise, you should hear my case and my 8600gt! Maybe i should get the 8000, and skip the psu upgrade? Is using the raidmax one that came with my raidmax case really that bad if i run a 3850 or 8800gt?

I am pretty sure that is not true. Every person I have talked and every computer I built have seen dropped idle and load temps with an aftermarket heatsink. Maybe you just dont have a very good one?

The only reason the 9500 is so loud is because it has a PWM fan controller rather than a 3-pin, so the system decides its RPM. You can manually set its RPM through software.

However, there's no reason to choose it over the 9700 unless you're really keen on saving 10 bucks or your motherboard doesn't have room for the 9700.

Personally, I hate Zalman fans. They have an awful grinding sound instead of the normal "swoosh" noise fans make from air turbulence. I ripped mine out and attached a 92mm Nexus fan to the heatsink (CNPS8000) instead.
