When OC a CPU...???

if you keep the CPU cool will the OCing hurt the CPU at all or is just cooling it slow down the deteriation of the CPU... reason why i ask is im interested in OCing my cpu and i have never done this before.. but im hesitant on doing it cause i dont wanna ruin anything since i basically dont know what im doing. of course if i do this im gonna get a better cooling fan and heat sink for my processor - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16835118019

how is that one and how high will i be able to OC my Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping Kentsfield 2.40GHz with that new heating and fan?

and one more thing how exactly do u OC ur processor.. i looked at OCing 101 and its all greek to me lol

heat is not the really killer of a cpu, its voltage. If you keep the vcore modest then there will be no issue. Overclocking will cut the half life of the cpu, but the cpu physical life is still way beyond its effective useful life

oh i see, i knew about the term from studying the disposal of radioactive things, but i didnt know it applied here as well

Huh so even safe oc will eventualy decrease the cpu lifespan then the normal cpu?

seems pretty normal doesn't it? pretty much anything will decrease in functionality when you use it more often/intensively.

Yeah thats make sense and thats also the law of nature :-D

I just though that safe oc (i mean no change in voltage just increasing fsb) lifespan will be the same as normal cpu
