when do programs load

I have a Sony Vaio LA3 and i'm having trouble with the wireless keyboard and mouse connecting on start up which means when the login sreen appears i can't type in the password,i've noticed the harddrive light is flickering for at least 2mins,what i would like to no do programs that are in the startup list load while in the login screen and cause my prob with the keyboard.
 
Startup programs, or just a really messy HDD. I'd recommend CCleaner, AVG, and Spybot Search & Destroy. After that, a good ol' Defragmentation.
 
Is this a wireless PS/2 or USB keyboard. If its a USB you might need to get into the bios a enable USB keyboard support
 
Keyboard and mouse are preloaded sony say i have to reinstall windows which i think is abit extreme, also when i rang sony they asked if i had the update KB941600 when i said no thats when they said a windows reinstall,whats the update for?I think it would be nice to what they are thinking,should it be there or not there i will ask next time i phone,i would like to gather some info for the next phone call.Thanks everyone

I dont see any reason why you would have to reinstall? heres the update, just download it and install and see if it solves your problem
