Asus m/b boot problems

I'm assuming its a mother board m/b issue because it can't be software related. I have an Asus AN8-Sli deluxe with two HD's.

A. 1 out of 4 times when I start the computer, the machine starts, along with the fans, with no video signal, and after about 15 seconds shuts down.

B. Usually when I restart the computer, either through windows, or the restart button, the computer will restart and appear to be running, but there will be no video signal.

As far as I can tell, the board is still mounted properly, and all wires in the right places, is it possible something is causing it to short circuit? Thanks..

With "A" I could easily suspect bad caps on the board itself. That was seen fast after only 3 days on the recent build here needing a fast replacement. The lack of display while the system seems to be starting up normally "B" could likely be a bad card installed without the beep code alert sounding off. There's no onboard video to disable on that model board.

Exact same motherboard I have ;)

Have you tried a new power supply? Perhaps different RAM, or even removing some other components? Mine's never given me any problems so I'm not really sure where else to start.

Good point though still. For seeing it shut down immediately after only so many seconds does seem to point at the board itself now realizing a fault. Without other components being faulty like the cpu, memory, or even seeing a bad card weak caps in a supply will also cause a number of problems.

Trying a different supply to rule that out before the board finally goes doa on you would be a thought there. A friend just remarked earlier today that he can now no longer start his build with that exact same model board. Everything snapped off while going to shutdown and wouldn't see anything the following day. That has been running without any problems for over a year and then suddenly now...? supply?, board?, or ???

my friend had an Asus mb, one day it works, and the other day just can not get it work.

I ran the A8N SLI model in the last build here and set that up for a family member when getting this going. That's still going strong since recently replacing the supply in it.

The person mentioned before had ordered an A8N SLI Premium to see two of those doa and was advised to either select a different one or go with a totally different make and model then. The A8N SLI model ran until just in the last day where the supply that was replaced on the old build is likely if no board faults other then battery are found.

Bad caps? One old article is seen at a site that goes by that for a name describes the plague of bad caps hitting the electronics field in general as well as pc boards. http://www.badcaps.net/ How to spot bad caps is a tutorial seen there at http://www.badcaps.net/pages.php?vid=5
