Building my first PC.

Hey guys, this seems like a really informative site. I look forward to my membership here. I have decided to build my first PC. I am great at working on electronics but I will probably need some assistance on this first of many projects to come. I have already purchased my case and PSU from tigerdirect. The case is the ULTRA M998 MID-TOWER CASE W/ CLEAR SIDE, BLACK and the PSU is the Ultra X3 1000w. I am looking at going high end mostly for gaming, video, and music purposes. I already have a DELL 2.8 ghz pentium D for all other apps. What I need some help with is choosing a MB and CHIP combo. Like I said I am looking for high end stuff so anything in mind would be great. Thanx :D

I would like to spend 7-8 thousand total for the whole system. I don't mean combo where they come together, I just want a really good MB and Chip setup.

Pointless. After about $1500, your computer wont get much better, you will just be adding things like hard drives, etc. I would spend $2000 max on a computer, and save the rest for when it all gets outdated in several months and buy one next year.

Thanx for the advice. I still want a high end mother board and Chip, any reccomendations?? What is the best I can get?

It depends if you want to SLI. I hear the x38 chips are one of the best chipsets you can get, but i personally havent used it. From what i hear though, you can only crossfire with the x38 chipset. Two ati radeon 3870 beat the 8800gt in sli. For a processor, i would recomment intel's core 2 quad q6600 quad core.

Thinking of going with Asus P5E3 chipset (x38) and QX9650 Intel Core 2 Extreme cpu. I think it will be a sick setup, especially when I crossfire with 2 3870's.
