AMD 6000+ Temp Issues

Ok so I have a problem. I've had it since I built this computer about 4 or 5 months ago. My temps on my 6000+ are about 45 (core 0) and 47 (core 1) at idle. These are really high temps, I know. But the weird thing is, under load they don't go up. For example I put my cpu under prime95 torture test (both cores 100%) for 14 1/2 hours and logged my temps. The highest my cores got at any point during the test was 47 (core 0) and 51 (core 1). Those temps seem totally fine to me for load, maybe a tad high. What dosn't make any sense is my idle temps. By the way this is all on a zalman 9500, and at the moment I have my case side off because the temps go up with it on. I think I have decent airflow, not great. I have 2 80mm intakes down low, one 80mm exhaust on top and one 80mm exhaust out back, and of course the psu has its own. All of this is on a stock clock, haven't even bothered trying to OC. Also as a side note, both the mobo and the cpu have been rma'd and replaced, unless they told me they replaced them and didn't (this is all at newegg though). Any input would be good.

Which case are you using? 2 80mm fans are kinda small. Most cases now a days use 120mm fans.

Are you sure you used enough thermal paste between the CPU and the fan?

Are your wires blocking the airflow inside the case?

What program are you using to monitor your temps?

generally i wouldnt consider this a problem, unless your temperatures are being read wrong which could be a software problem or a hardware malfunction. the first i think of trying is using a few different programs at once to see if they are reading differently by much

Go in your bios and see what it reads on idle, what thermal paste did you use? You should be getting some from 28-35c idle

I'm using the AI booster that came with the asus board right now as well as "core temp". I have also tied everest, which said the same thing. I havent checked the bios in a while but they were consistently about the same, maybe one or two deg lower. I know I used enough thermal paste (AS5), put a thin coating on with a credit card, just enough to cover the letters. I'm using a Lian Li case, and I do know I could use some cable management, I think it might pick up another IDE cable because right now i'm kinda limited to placement of my HDD and burner because of the length of the cable. I guess i'll try that before Anything else.

Have you tried speedfan or PC Wizard? it is possible the motherboard itself is reporting the temps wrong. The fan on the zalman is spinning, right?

Oh yeah on a side note I am running the cpu at 1.38 volts which is between the 1.35 and the 1.4 recommended.

Do you guys think it could be anything to do with my PSU at all? Its pretty small for what i'm running in my system. Its just a 500w ultrax connect. I dont know if not having enough power to run the cpu could put stress on it and therefor heat.

Ok so i've tried speed fan and pc wizard and both say the same thing. I cant imagine that airflow could raise temps 20deg above what they should be. I've heard of tons of these cpus running in the mid 20's on stock cooling, my zalman should do better.

Well the 6000 runs alittle hot but are you sure you have your Zalman turned the right way, the fan is suppost to be toward the drive cage and the fins are toward the back exhaust fan.

yeah the fan must be pointing to the back of the case, and you need to make sure that your fans are not backwards. a side fan or front fan turned backwards created suction and practically superheats computers. other then that it might be a good idea to try and reseat the cooler, make sure its on really friken tight

Yeah the the zalman is on right. And all the case fans are blowing the right direction. I've reseated this thing once before already but I guess I could try one more time. I'm just out of ideas.

if need-be, you could post up five-six pictures of the inside of your case and we might be able to see the problem. oh also, its a stupid question, but have you tried turning the fan up?

yeah the fan must be pointing to the back of the case,
No the fan points to the front of the case with the fins at the back. The Fan is a intake fan, if you point it to the back it will be fighting with the rear case exhaust fan for air.

sorry i meant the airflow must be going towards the back of the case,

Like Lovely said about your fan speed, do you have a program that shows the CPU fan speed so you could monitor it.

yea because i have heard of fan controllers going bad and sticking to the stock settings, manually turning the speed up might help

Yeah i've actually been messing with the fan speed. The zalman came with a fan mate which I had hooked up just so I could run the fan at 100% all the time because of my temps, which was running it at like 2200rpm. So just out of curiosity I unhooked the fan mate and hooked up the fan directly to the mobo and now it runs about 2400rpm! Weird, maybe the fanmate didnt give the fan the amperage it needed or something. This extra couple hundred rpm helped mildly at best, 1, maybe 2 deg. Whats weird is that I can overclock my cpu another 200 or so mhz and it hardly does anything to temps. This is all still on stock voltage. I'm still working on finding an extra round ide cable locally so I can clean up the wiring a little. I think one small problem is that the big ol' ide cables are right in front of where the zalman draws it intake air. I just cant see this being such a huge deal, but I could always be wrong.
