Planned System, need feedback

This is a gaming system with a budget around $1000 ish. I do not want to run dual monitors or GPUs. Need to know what you guys think. The video card is open to change and I know the new processors are coming out soon, I will probably end up going with one of them. Thanks.
PS: I don't really know how to pick out a dvd drive, advice needed. I am not overclocking this system.

well most dvd drives do pretty much everything. so most of the time a slightly cheaper one just wont have lightscribe or something. but thats usually the only difference.

so basically that one you have looks perfect.

also for that budget the E6750 seems perfect. and i cant see anything else that i dislike.

i would usually recommend a Gigabyte P35 mobo.

apart from that i like it.

I do like Gigabyte MBs, and the P35 seems good for me because I am not SLIing. I want a nVidia chipset, I heard they're better for gaming.

I need more opinions please, thanks

Yeah good call, the GPU is the one thing that is likely to switch up within my design. If I have the extra money I will be investing that in the CPU and video card. Thanks for the advice.

i reckon forget the cpu. like get a decent one but focus on getting a good gpu. thats whats gonna count in gaming.

XMS2 = $37 after rebates...

I'd get at least a Q6600, and a P31-S3G.

Thanks for the ram suggestion. Is the ^ chipset good for gaming? I am doing some research right now.

There are only 4 775 socket intel motherboards with P31 chipsets on newegg. None of them seem too nice or would be great for gaming. More suggestions?

I am not really considering quad cores

Yeah I realize there is a good rebate on the RAM. Is the ^ chipset good for gaming? I am doing some research right now.

Any chipset is good for gaming. You're looking for:

Overclockability
Manufacturer

1) Overclocking... if you are or aren't, get a P31/P35/X38 board. Lots more futureproof than the one you picked, and better.

2) VIA/SiS = Not my choices. Go with Intel or nVidia.

I should have specified originally but I am not over clocking this system. I do like nVidia chipsets even though I am not running SLI. The P35 or a 6xxi nVidia motherboard is probably what I am going to get. I heard nVidia chipsets are good for gaming.

Do you mean brand like Gigabyte, EVGA, ASUS, etc. I am not sure what else "Manufacturor" would be. Thanks.

I'd recommend Gigabyte for motherboards. Asus is rather picky about memory...

Yeah I had heard some funny things about Asus and more good ones about Gigabyte. Thanks.

I need more opinions.

looks quite a bit like the system i am going to put together, i like it i agree with the p35 mobo

Yes, we have agreed on this before, our system plans are very similar. I would recommend 4gbs man, especially for gaming or whatever you do, and also because RAM is inexpensive.

Go for GA-P35-DS3R. as I am not sure if 650i chipset fully support all 45nm CPU.
And Get the SATA DVD burner

Good call. I posted that DVD drive link last minute without thoroughly looking it over. I also have been looking at the new C2D E8400, 3.0Ghz 6mb cache 1333 fsb as well as the EVGA 8800GTS 512mb/256bit DDR3.
Thanks, any more ideas?

yea i was really thinking about just getting the 4 gbs of ram, but then i had some people say that i didnt need it, so i will prolly just get the 4 gbs

Haha funny. What do you use your computer for? If you are gaming at all or do any video stuff get 4gigs.

well i love to play games, nothing too heavy on system requirements, mainly sports games, i havent really had a gaming computer so i will really be new to the whole gaming scene, i love to photoshop pics though, so i know i will be doing a lot of that, and after everything i can prolly see me getting another hdd for storage prolly another 500 gb

Well afterall you may not need 4 gigs in that case. You plan on running Vista? This can be another reason to get some more memory.

yea i want to get vista ultimate because i see xp as being the past, i really really like xp, but lets face it, everything has to go away anyway, so i would rather get vista now instead of blow money on xp then vista
