My computer came installed with Mcafee Security Center and Windows Defender. Is this is a good combo for prevention again spyware and viruses. I have Windows Vista.

dunno but there are great free programs you can download that will use very little system resources. avira is one.

I've been swapping around recently. The advice I got was that Windows Defender isn't even worth having and I know from past experience that McAfee isn't much better than Norton.

Right now I'm using BitDefender that covers you against all types of malware. You can get it cheap from resellers on ebay. If you need a firewall then they do other packages with that included.

According my experience, the best antivirus is being careful about what you download. I've been without antivirus for about 3 years (and I download A LOT of things from LimeWire, Ares, etc., sometimes even cracks) and I haven't been on any serious situation.

BUT I recognize that having an antivirus is a wise idea :) Again, according to my experience, free anti virus are really good. I hate McAffee and Norton. When I was a kid they always found like 2000 virus and repaired about 3 or 4. And it seems it hasn't changed because the same happens to my friends. They slow your computer A LOT too. For me, McAffee and Norton are like armies of 1,000,000 cops chasing one criminal and they never find it because they get confused with their own numbers.

I love Nod32 and Kaspersky.

I havnt had anti-virus on any computer ive owned and have never recieved one. Just dont download programs on limewire, and dont watch porn. Simple enough?

Ya, the best thing is just not downloading things you know could be dangerous. If you want to download a song (which is usually 1mb-10mb) you don't want to download an executable of 127 kb...
