Hi,
I tried several times to connect my laptop on my TV but I cannot figure how to make it work. My laptop is a DELL Inspiron 1520, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2.2GHz, 800Mhz, 4M L2 Cache, Midnight Blue Color with Matte Finish, 4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm ), High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1680x1050), 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. When I press on Fn and F8(CRT/LCD) nothing appears on my TV. Need help.
This is a video of my problem:

Thank you

haha I hear dog gnar in your video~nice TV and...I cant tell where the problem is.
maybe you should call the laptop customer service.

You cannot that adapter in that manner (video was a good idea), is it used for the exact reverse! The VGA on your laptop sends analog signals, but your TV (with your DVI connection) should receive digital signals, so there's your problem. You should instaid try to find an adapter that goes from VGA to tv components (like the green-blue-yellow connections, or S-Video at worst).

EDIT: Quick google search, you're looking for something like this. (I assume your TV has YPrPb component inputs) *That adapter might only work with the ATI cards, but you shoud find like a converter box of some sort that could do this.

plenty of things to try.

one) is tv set to accept the input of the computer? like if its plugged into an hdmi port is it set to that hdmi port for display?

two) right click on your desktop and set up clone mode, that way you have the same image on both your laptop and TV

three) vga -> dvi -> hdmi probably dosent work (im assuming the plug into the TV is hdmi b/c i cant think of a tv offhand that has a dvi input, if it does than it should work)

try those and see what happens. dont use fn+f8 for any of them

Or go into the actual nVidia settings on your comp then go to set up addition monitor, or something to that effect, and you should be able to do it from there.

Thank you, I will try that adapter.
