2 or 3 graphics cards

I finally have enought money to buy the alienware computer that I wanted, and I just wanted to know if I was better of getting dual 8800 ultra graphics card with a physics accelerator or just tri 8800 GTX??

Ps. I could also try to get tri 8800 Ultra but it will cost another 750-1000 dollars.

If you have monetary concern I will say just get dual GPUs (you select what you can pay for, if you can afford the Ultras get them)and no physics card. Physics cards aren't really a big deal.

How much are you spending on this Alienware system?

$750-$1000 for an additional Ultra card? The cards themselves only cost $650.

I would go with dual 8800Ultras, but without the physics card as well.

Wow, I missed that part about the amount for the Ultra. Thats why I wanted to know his gaming rig total. I bet it is unheard of, AW is known to be a nice big ripoff. The only think different about their machines will be the cool custom case.

You save so much money building your own computer. Pre-made comps are generally a hardcore ripoff. Go to newegg and see how much it would cost to build your system yourself compared to what alienware is charging.

If you have the money and thats what you want, go for it, I'm not trying to tell you how to spend your money or anything, I'm just pointing out that you could probably save a lot.

Yeah I suggest this as well. The surprise in how ridiculously expensive Alienware is will hopefully inspire you to build your own computer. :)

You get a really cool feeling of accomplishment when you build your own comp too, like everytime you get on it its just like hell yeah...

Don't buy the AlienWare because you can build better for cheaper (w/out software). the reason to get 2 GPU's is to take the load off of the CPU. If you get a Quad-core and 4Gb of ram you would only need one 8800 ultra 768Mb. That will run great and will last a while.

GPUs dont relieve the processor of anything. They are the graphics processing, if you have two, it simply increases 3D possibilities. If anything, having an external videocard just relieves the onboard video(if any) from doing anything.

And I would not suggest a 8800 Ultra 768Mb because they cost $800, the 512 video memory Ultras will do fine.

Uh no, it doesnt. It just gives it more 3d rendering power; a cpu does not do 3d rendering.

I heard in late Feb or something like that. Later in this quarter I believe. Starting at $1500 Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whats with all this BS information? The 9 series is not going to start at $1500, even the dual-GPU card is suppose to be under $500.
