HD 3870 512mb VS 8800GT 512 mb

which would be a better investment ,one runs cooler but other gets better graphics, or get two lower ones versions of these and crossfire/sli them??

8800gt, all around better card. 8800gt uses more electricity then the 3870, but not by much. O and for the money, sli/crossfire is not worth it.

For the money, i would get the 3870. I say from experience i think its a better card.

Also for the future, only if your motherboard supports it. Crossfire is better than SLI, it scales better.

Both are fantastic cards for the price, you can't go wrong either way.

I mean it's a little bit subjective but no better way, motodude~

the ati's look abit better, and truthfully crossfire really is worth it now, it has been seeing fps jumps on the order of 80% or more, so pairing up even to 3850's has been able to beat or come right behind the nvidia GTX and ULTRA

Spec wise the 3870 is actually much better, but in game benchmarks the 8800GT does pull ahead. Both are great video cards, it really depends on your budget and if you plan to run SLI/CF.

well my mobo supports crossfire so im just going to go with that, but do i buy one 3870 or run two 3850 or one 3870 & one 3850 ? if its possible

What would you get if you were trying to stay under $300 and don't plan to run SLI/CF?

the 3870 has gone up as price as has the 8800gt. i think the 3850 is probably the best card to buy for the price. if you can find an 8800gt 512mb for under $250 that's probably the best deal you'll find though.

Well you said you have a crossfire motherboard. I would see no reason to go with the 8800GT, later down the road you could buy another 3870 if you wanted..

The HD3850 is the best card for the price overall. But the HD3870 would be my choice from experience. Just get the HD3870 and later down the road if you feel you need more, Crossfire. IMO

ya well i can get the 3850 for $169.99 and the 3870 for $229.99, so they are both priced great, I know the 3850 will give me great graphics cause i have a friend who has a 8600gts 512 and his graphics look great and the 3850 is supposed to out perform it by lots, going by the benchmarks i seen. So maybe that will do, but i can only imagine how great the 3870 would look, I’m so torn right now on which to go for..lol, I’ll figure something out I guess
