GTA San Andreas extremely laggy

Hey all, with my old graphics card, I used to get GTA San Andreas really smoothly, but with my new card, it is extremely laggy, even though its reporting 57FPS, the game is stuttering. It is set to 1440x900 - 32-bit. I heard its a problem with the new PCs, and is there anyway to fix this?
 
Indeed, with this setup, it should play very well, but it wont :(, I have just got some new Catalyst drivers 8.1, maybe this will fix it?
 
I had the same problem on my pc,higher damanding games run fine but when i tried GTA:SA (even on low settings) it lagged like hell.

mainly when you accelerate and get out of your car and walk:(

driver update did not fix the problem for me nither did any of the patches.
my pc is not new either :D

i gave up on it in the end:P
 
Oh man, I get 40fps typically but it dips to 3FPS in San Fierro! Its horrible, I hope GTA IV will work if it comes to the PC...


edit, its not just ATi cards, I had a x1950xt a few months back, never had a problem.
