I just bought one of these things. It's made by "Sparkle" (never heard of them). I hope I didn't make a big mistake. One of my X1950 Pros just died this morning and I really want to play Crysis. Someone make me feel better about myself, because it was a lot of money ($460 is a lot of money to me. I told myself I would never spend that much on a VGA again). Not only that, but I'm a diehard ATi fan. I'm really feeling guilty about jumping ship.

I've actually heard of sparkle the local microcenter carries some of their cards, no experience with them though. They seem to be a smaller company because they are always cheaper than EVGA, Diamond, etc.

If it works it works, unless someone can chime in with an actual experience owning a sparkle card.

I love that! :D

Sparkle, I've heard of them, they're fairly big in the UK, they're good from what I've heard, so you're Ok!

Enjoy it man! I know I would! :)

ok, this card is insane. Crysis set itself to very high by autodetect, 1680x1050, 2x AA. The gameplay is unbelievably smooth. The graphics are pretty sweet too, I must admit. Ok, I don't regret it now. This card is very, very cool. Huge, but cool.

That would leave the computer specs as follows:

C2D E6700
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
4 GB G.Skill DDR2-800
Sparkle 8800 GTX 768MB
Asus PhysX
WD RaptorX 150
WD Raptor 75GB
Seagate 750GB
Pioneer SATA DVD
Pioneer IDE DVD
Rocketfish 700W
LG L226WTQ 22" LCD
LG L204WT 20" LCD
Logitech MX5000 Bluetooth keyboard/mouse
Logitech Z-580 speaker
Logitech Pro 5000 cam

Should be ok for gaming

Very good card. Sparkle isn't the best of brands, but on the other hand, it's not like they're the Anti-christ of video cards. Should serve you fine.

In all honesty though, the new G92 core chips, in particular the 8800gt and 8800gts 512mb cards, are on par with both the GTX and Ultra while costing considerably less (the GT costs only $225-270 while being only a couple frames slower than the GTX).

At the resolution I play at, there seems to be a bit of a wider gap between the two (at least going by what I'm reading here). It seems to be capable of some pretty crazy things. Cool.

Yeah, I figured it might be a low-end brand, but I don't mind. It plays really well. I don't feel so bad being a traitor or spending that much cake on a silly card anymore. Now I can sell my remaining working X1950 Pro 512MB to someone. :P

the GTS 512MB gets a couple more frames than the GTX

The GTS is about 10% faster than the GT, but is a hundred bucks more. Worth the premium? Maybe, but I don't think so. The GT is the sweet spot. :D

Whaaaa?

The card is really outdated, the G80 chip inside is ancient. The GTX is over a year old now, and I just think they are just overprice pieces of junk, the new G92 512Mb 8800GTS has similar performance at half the price, and consumes way less power. I wouldn't touch the GTX with a 10 foot pole.

Yes, it's a lot of money.. The extra RAM will affect pricing obviously. The price is what gets me. Everything else seems fine.

Honestly the only reason I bought it is because I wanted a card right away and my only choices were it or a Radeon 3750. If I waited I could have gotten one from the wholesaler.. but no probs. I have one now so it's cool. ;)

Not sure I need it, although the board I'm considering has SLI support.. The one I think I'm going to buy is a "Striker Extreme". Should be ok.

The card is really darn fast.. as in disturbingly fast. SLI at this point seems rather pointless, although it would be rather funny. :P

sigh... the good old days when 1 7800GTX was amazing already.... :P

anyways, Sparcle is a good brand as far as I'm concerned. my mx440 was a sparcle, and it never died on me. (and some of my friends use sparcle cards too) the thing is, you dont pay a lot extra for the name, as you do with say Asus or xfx, hence they are usually cheaper :)
I dont think its a bad buy tbh, and if you have the money spare for it, great! :)

+1. But, it's your choice.

Sparkle is a small but great company :)
