My goal is an all purpose machine. I do not want to go over $1600. I would really love to have a monitor that can display component/s-video/composite inputs as well as have a DVI connection. It dosent need all three inputs but it must have DVI and one of the others at least. Don't factor MIR into the budget, but make the total after shipping/tax. ships to 95616. Everything bought from the same site(newegg should work for that anyways). I will do semi-heavy gaming on it so decent gpu is a must. I will be encoding video on a semi frequent basis (VOB -> Avi -> mp4). 320gb or larger hdd, 2gb of RAM. The thing that I am not sure on is Blu Ray, I kinda want it but I wont be heart broken without it and I figured with the larger budget it is worth it for me. This will all be put in a CM690 case. USB backpannel ports are a HUDE plus b/c i have quite a few peripherals (2 external hdd's, mouse, keyboard, Camera, webcam, ipod, printer), but i can allways buy usb hubs to make up for that.

Oh, also would like p35 chipset please, might consider an x38/48 board if its in budget, i want semi future proofing with the chipset so those three chipsets only please

why do u need 3 more sata cables? Dont like the ones that come with the mobo?

the cables that come with the mobo arnt straight-to-right angle cables, which is what i want for cable management.

I dont want to use mall in rebates, i want go get the best i can BEFORE mail in rebates so those two suggestions wont work, other wise I would of had them up already.

and i couldnt decide on the 3870 or the 8800, both seem awesome but its tough, why should i choose the 3870?

Hmmm i think i will go with it, in the flavor of Saphire.

I am also bumping up to a 24" screen b/c I found a buyer for my 22" screen. yay.

I can't wait to buy this and get it all put together

If anyone has a convincing argument against blu ray let me know, Im still on the fence about it and I can't decide to save the 250 smackers or spend it and live in movie bliss

CPU: Get E8400.
Monitor: Not sure the brand...

hopefully they will be in stock tomorrow *crosses fingers*

and Ive dropped the Blu Ray, I will be waiting for a Blu Ray burner to become more economically feaseable. That brings the e8400 into budget :D

does anyone else have suggestions before i purchase tomorrow/wednesday?

I would go with the 3870, after seeing both cards in action, in person. I decided on the 3870.

You can't go wrong with either card though.
